A remnant is a usable piece remaining from a full slab. It can be a practical fit for a vanity, desk, laundry counter, shelf, hearth, threshold, bench, or small bar when the usable dimensions, thickness, finish, movement, cutouts, and edge clearance match the finished plan. The visible size alone does not prove the piece will fabricate safely.
Which projects are good remnant candidates?
Vanities, laundry tops, coffee bars, desks, hearths, shelves, shower pieces, and small outdoor details often fit remnants. The best candidate has a simple plan, known dimensions, and enough flexibility to work with the piece that exists.
Why the usable rectangle matters
A piece larger than the cabinet can still be too small after sink cutouts, edge clearance, movement, damaged areas, and handling limits are considered. Bring the finished plan, not only the cabinet width.
What should you bring to the yard?
Bring finished dimensions, photos, the sink specification, the desired edge, and any matching samples. If matching an existing counter, bring a clear daylight photo and expect natural stone and manufactured lots to vary.
- Finished length and depth
- Sink model and cutout
- Edge and splash plan
- Photos and matching samples
A hold is not fabrication approval
A hold keeps the selected piece connected to the customer while the team confirms fit. Template, material inspection, and fabrication review still control whether the remnant can become the planned part.

Questions homeowners ask us
Are remnants always cheaper?
No. A remnant can reduce the material purchase for the right small project, but the fabrication, cutouts, edges, delivery, and installation work still apply.
Can two remnants with the same name match?
They may differ by natural slab, manufactured lot, age, finish, or exposure. Compare the physical pieces before treating them as a match.
Can I reserve a remnant before visiting?
Ask the showroom to confirm that the piece is available and place a short hold against your customer record. Granite Division still needs the finished plan to confirm fabrication fit.
